“What The Hell” – A Perfect Movie to Freshen Up Your Mind

“I love a happy ending” is one of the most common lines you get to hear. People love happy endings. But what is a happy ending? What is the definition of a happy ending? If you think about it, it’s not as easy a question to answer as it seems. It can actually vary between genres. Usually, we like to see happy endings in love stories. Boy meets girl, they face challenges, and they finally overcome challenges. This is the rule, basically. “What The Hell” is one such story. It fulfills all the criteria of being a good happy ending story. However, there is more to it than meets the eye.

“What The Hell” is a romantic comedy that gives off a happy vibe right from the start. It instantly lifts your spirits and feels like a daydream. The movie portrays love as imperfect and debunks the idea of love at first sight, but it does show that attraction at first sight can lead to love. Despite facing external challenges, love triumphs in the end, and “What The Hell” celebrates this in a straightforward manner. The film is reminiscent of “When Harry Met Sally,” although the plot itself is different.

“What The Hell” is the story of Eyal and Shani, who are close friends. Despite their desire to become closer, their past traumas prevent them from expressing their true feelings. However, everything changes when they embark on an adventure together. Although they encounter several obstacles along the way, their love for each other helps them overcome these challenges. Despite the violent nature of the obstacles, they push through and find a common ground, ultimately making their lives more fulfilling. That gave them hope for a better future. The future that every youngster seeks.

The director used dry humor to tell the story, creating subtle comedic moments that give the film a lighthearted feel. The storytelling approach is fresh, blending humor and romance in a refreshing way. The dialogue is funny, maintaining a light mood throughout the film. However, while using humor to tell the story, the director seemed to compromise the portrayal of intense love. The love and friendship between the characters didn’t fully develop. There is a kissing scene at the end, but it lacks impact. Some punchlines also fail to make an impression. It seems like the writer, Adar Wadislavski, drew from personal experiences to tell the story but failed to effectively connect the dots. This is evident in the fighting scene, which comes across as absurd rather than funny. Up to that point, the director told the story in a realistic way, but it became absurd afterward. While there’s no harm in telling an absurd story, blending realism and absurdism doesn’t work well. Despite these minor issues, the film is still worth watching. However, every art has its mistakes. Sometimes, those mistakes make the art complete. Though I’ve been using the word mistake here, there are no such mistakes in the film. Only a few minor issues.

The writer-director of the film, Adar Wadislavski, has done an amazing job. He has covered all aspects of filmmaking. Despite some naivety in the storytelling, the timeless theme of love shines through. Additionally, his role as the film’s editor shows his deep understanding of the story. The story itself is quite refreshing, especially in a time dominated by war and tragedy. Adar has portrayed violence in a raw yet hopeful way, demonstrating that love and happiness can triumph. This blend of emotions has truly made the film a success. Success not in terms of box office figures, but a pleasant watch for the audience.

The two main actors of the film, Shira Minkin and Adar Wadislavski, delivered outstanding performances. However, in a few scenes, their acting felt a bit off. Despite this, their on-screen chemistry was strong enough to leave a lasting impression. Their facial expressions played a significant role in enhancing their performances, and their body language elevated their characters to another level.

“What The Hell” is a perfect popcorn movie. It may not blow your mind, but it will leave you feeling happy by the end. The simple story and carefree characters make the film worth watching. I would give the film 3.5 out of 5 stars.
